The disk check utility searches and fixes file system errors. Microsoft Windows operating systems has a special utility CHKDSK for this purpose. This program also checks disks for physically damaged sectors (bad sectors). If such sectors are detected, they are marked as bad ones and the system no longer tries to engage them.
Windows 7 (Graphic interface)
- Open Computer window.
- Right-click on the disk you want to check, and select Properties.
- Open the Tools tab and click the Check now button.
- Tick both options and click Start.
- If you check a system disk, you will be prompted to perform a disk check at the next restart. Click Schedule disk check.
- Restart the computer and wait for the check to be completed.
To avoid damaging the disk and corrupting the file data, do not interrupt or stop the disk check when it is in progress.
Windows 8, 8.1, 10, 11 (Command prompt)
Launch Command Prompt app as Administrator:

- Hold the Windows key and press “X”
- Select Command Prompt (Admin) in the menu

- Press Windows button and type in cmd.exe
- Right-click with the mouse on the Command Prompt app and select Run as administrator
- In Command Prompt window, type chkdsk x: / f / r (no quotation marks, x is the Letter of the disk that you want to check (usually it is a disk where the game is installed) and press Enter.
- If you check a system disk, you will be prompted to check the disk at the next restart. Press Y and Enter
- Then reboot the PC and wait while disk is being checked.
- You may also be asked to temporarily dismount the volume before checking. Press Y and Enter. Then wait until checking is finished
